Rich, sweet and luxuriously delicious, chocolate is one of those things that simply make life better. Which is why on 24 and 25 August (full details below) we are deeply thrilled to bring you Khéma’s brand new “Chocolatey” High Tea, personally crafted by one of France’s greatest chocolatiers, Serge Granger.
Mr Granger is coming to Cambodia this month to train Khéma’s confectioners in the magical arts of gourmet chocolate making, and he brings with him over 40 years of knowledge, skill and craftsmanship, honed over a career during which he was crowned Meilleur Ouvrier de France (“best craftsperson in France”) in 1993, among numerous other prizes and accolades. He is also a member of the Académie Française du Chocolat et de la Confiserie and Honorary President of Tradition Gourmande, an association of French confectioners, chocolatiers, bakers and ice cream makers.
A divine medley of flavours, aromas and textures, the new High Tea will feature macarons, madeleine, salted caramel, fruit jellies, opera cake, scones, smoked salmon and cucumber bites, quiche, seafood vol-au-vent, ham and cheese sandwich, and a choice of homemade jam or chocolate spread, and of course, not to forget a refreshing pot of tea from our special selection by the experts at Harney & Sons, Khéma’s generous new High Tea is a gourmand’s dream.
During the special launch events, you will be able to savour this glorious feast for just $8++. But don’t worry if you miss it, the new Khéma High Tea will still be available afterwards. We couldn’t take that away from you.
But first, a few facts about chocolate. So delicious that its botanical genus (theobrama cacao) literally means ‘food of the gods’, chocolate was introduced to Europeans by the Aztecs of Central America in 1502. The Aztecs reserved their chocolate drinks for warriors, but in Europe the new drink, often spiced with vanilla, cinnamon or anise and flavoured with sugar, was reputedly more popular among women. In powerful cities such as Turin, an entire afternoon ritual around drinking luscious cups of piping hot chocolate swiftly developed among the upper classes.
And chocolate isn’t just delicious, it’s good for you too. Packed full of antioxidants and minerals, chocolate can help to protect your heart and your skin, all the while making you smarter. As we said above, it just makes life better. There is no such thing as the wrong time for enjoying chocolate, and we’ll help you join us in savouring the divine creations of Mr Granger this month.
