The Khéma Raclette Party is back, giving you and your friends and family the chance to enjoy an unlimited, two-hour Free Flow of Raclette Cheese, from the experts at Frères Marchand, together with baby potatoes and Khéma Cold Cuts, as well as Free-Flow red and white house wine and buffet-style dishes alongside too.
With a rich, fruity, savoury taste that only becomes sweeter and richer when melted, Raclette is a cheese and a tradition that the French have taken very much to heart. The word derives from the French racler, meaning to scrape, and describes the long tradition of posing the cut surface of a wheel of this full-fat mountain cheese beside a fire and progressively scraping off the cheese as it melts into a delicious silky-smooth “soup” which goes beautifully with potatoes, pickled vegetables and cold meats. A raclette dinner party is always a crowd-pleaser and especially perfect for birthdays, holidays and other celebrations too.
The tradition goes back to the times when shepherds taking their flocks up the mountains for the transhumance (migrating the sheep to their summer pastures) in the hot summer months needed to bring food with them that wouldn’t spoil easily in the heat, so they brought cheese and potatoes with them. While the potatoes roasted in the fire, a wheel of cheese was placed beside it, ready to be scraped off and enjoyed as a nourishing, delicious, and fun, meal.
